The

Ensure
homework is related to the work being done at school.
Set
homework which allows students to demonstrate what they know, what
they can do and which challenges them to progress.
Give
students sufficient time for the completion of tasks.
Ensure

formally or informally.

if possible, a dedicated quiet place and desk for homework and
study.

with teachers about any concerns about their child’s approach
to homework.
Our
homework guidelines include the following:
Homework
activities vary according to the needs of the various subjects being
studied. While some homework will consist of completing work begun
in class and preparing for future lessons, students are also given
work to
consolidate what they have learnt and to help them progress to the
next stage of their learning.
As
a guide, students in Year 8 should complete at least seven hours a
week. Many students study for much longer than this.
In
addition to carrying out the homework set by teachers, secondary
students are expected to spend time at home reviewing the work they
have learnt in class. This includes revision by reading and
writing. Students are also encouraged to discuss their school work
with their parents/caregivers.
All
students are advised to follow a formal study timetable especially
in the weeks before their examinations.
The
school provides advice and guidance for students on study skills
including teaching them a number of specific study techniques.
Throughout
their school career students are expected to develop these learning
habits
Being
well prepared and organised.
Showing
initiative and responsibility for their own learning.
Working
cooperatively in group situations.
Working
independently.
Reflecting on and evaluating their own learning.
