The
Role of the Support Teacher Learning Assistance (STLA)
The
STLA helps the school to cater for those students in regular classes
who are experiencing difficulties in basic areas of learning
(Literacy and Numeracy), regardless of the cause of such
difficulties. This includes students with intellectual disabilities.
The
STLA works with the school, teachers, parents and caregivers to
identify and assess students experiencing difficulties in basic
areas of learning.
The
STLA works collaboratively with the school’s Learning Support
Team to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programs for students
experiencing difficulties in learning.
The
STLA may assist the school through team teaching, consultancy and
training and development with other teachers.
The
STLA may withdraw students for assessment or short term intensive
instruction.
