Teaching
and Learning: Stage 4 teamsEach class in Years 7 & 8 has a team of teachers who meet once a fortnight at school to discuss the learning and welfare needs of their students.
The team approach
allows teachers to gain a greater understanding of their students as
individual learners. It gives teachers time to develop an
understanding of each student’s learning styles and needs, and
to develop programs and approaches to cater for these. Teachers
share ideas, information, plan and reflect collaboratively.
Teams also enables a
collaborative proactive approach to welfare. This leads to a greater
understanding of learners as individuals. At team meetings teachers
examine data available from primary school and NAPLAN tests as well
as collect and monitor information about student welfare. Teachers
identify students in need of referral and liaise with parents and
various welfare personnel. This ensures a smooth and effective
transition from primary school.
Teams allow teachers to work collaboratively and reflect on their teaching for the benefit of student and teacher learning.
